The antenatal care pathway
Know what is offered at booking, how screening is organised and how risk changes the schedule of care. The NICE antenatal guideline sets the overall framework.
Our blueprint estimate puts 15–20 of the 200 questions in clinical management, about 8.8% of the paper, spread across both papers. It is our estimate, not a figure published by the RCOG. One of the heaviest-weighted areas on the paper.

Clinical management is the Part 1 area closest to Part 2: a short vignette and a question about what to do next. Unlike the science areas it is not tied to a single summary, so it is best revised from the clinical guidelines themselves.
The 9 syllabus topics we map to Clinical Management for Part 1.
Know what is offered at booking, how screening is organised and how risk changes the schedule of care. The NICE antenatal guideline sets the overall framework.
Understand when induction is offered, how readiness of the cervix guides the method, and the risks of each. Principles matter more here than regimes.
Postpartum haemorrhage and ectopic pregnancy both reward a systematic approach: resuscitate, identify the cause, treat in an escalating sequence. Learn the order rather than just the list.

Heavy menstrual bleeding, menopause and contraception are tested as decisions about suitability: which option fits this patient, and which is contraindicated?

Use the clinical guidelines as your primary source for this area and work through scenarios, not topics. For each, write the first action, the investigation, the first-line treatment and the point at which you would escalate. Practise reading a vignette for the detail that changes the answer, such as a contraindication, a gestation or a comorbidity.
Part 1 is 200 single best answer questions across two papers with no negative marking, so an informed guess always beats a blank. Clinical management is a high-yield area in our blueprint estimate, and it is the natural bridge to Part 2. It also tests whether the science areas have been absorbed well enough to apply.
